Whats the difference between the state tax and the federal tax?

If IRS take your state tax can they do the same with your federal tax

IRS is your Federal Tax. Whatever state you live in is your state tax. They are totally separate as far as filing and withheld.
depends on what the basis of the garnishment of your refund
if the state can’t get what they have against you they can put a lien on your federal refund
In Texas there is no income tax. We have sales tax and several other fees and taxes. Our local governments also have sales tax and property tax.
The federal government has income tax and several other taxes and fees.
The state taxes vary from state to state- I guess that is the biggest difference.
