I am currently a retail pharm tech and am interested in becoming a pharmacy auditor, either working for an insurance company or 3rd party audit service. What can you tell me about this position? is it rewarding? do you have good personal interactions with clients? How is the pay? Do you have to travel far distances? What are some good companies to work for? Thanks so much.

Most auditors are CPhT’s with retail experience. If you work for a parent company or PBM you may perform desk audits or physical on-site audits. Working for a third party vendor would be mostly on-site audits. Physical audits can take you into shady areas and sometime you will have to work in a basement to access the records needed, the other think you should be aware of is: You will be everyone’s least favorite person. You will have to take a lot of yelling and name calling. However, it is a rewarding when you find that one big flaw in the system; the interaction is limited with clients. Most audits are completed electronically. Travel will depend on the type on companies you might work for. I would expect not more than 25%, the pay exceeds and retail pay plus the hour are better. It’s hard to say which company is good to work for; I depends on the benefits you are looking for like, work at home day, bonus. Tuition reimbursement ECT, Having said all that, now I can tell you it’s wonderful and beats retail 100%. I would never go back to retail. I wish you luck in finding up position
