My wife and I were able to successfully appeal our LTD denial. We also won our Social Security denial without a lawyer.

But that leaves open what happens afterwards, what options do I have when the private insurance company behaves unprofessionally by harassing, lying, and constantly threatening you by "reviewing your disability status", month after month, considering new paperwork old because it took them weeks to get to it, etc.?

Some examples:

**Refusal to give me my policy, they had to be forced to do so by my former employer, only after I hired a lawyer to send them a letter demanding they provide it.

**Constantly requesting "updated medical information", month after month, even though I have a letter from Social Security informing
me that they are not even going review my medical condition for the next 5-7 years, due to the severity of my injury! Seems like every
time I get them a report from my Dr., it takes them 4 weeks to review it and then it’s old news and it starts again!

**They lied and sent me a letter that they were going to reduce my monthly benefits dollar for dollar because of my daughter’s Social
Security benefits.I had to hire an attorney to review the contract, send a letter that it was not legal to do so, then they sent me a letter
apologizing for their "mistake".

I can go on and on, and that’s just since last august!

Am I protected from this abuse by the ADA or Bad Faith Provisions in NJ, or any other laws or regulations?
So you consider it an "inconvenience" that they tried to steal my benefits, refused to provide a policy, even though I am injured and in chronic
pain? What good are bad faith laws?

I filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, 2 months after the bankruptcy was discharged, I received a call from a repo company saying my car was being repossessed because the reaffirmation agreement wasn’t filed. Come to find out my lawyers office misplaced the paperwork. The bankruptcy was petitioned to be opened again so the paperwork can be filed correctly. My lawyer is now charging me 0.00 for reopening the case. Are they legally allowed to do this?

I am thinking of providing daycare for a friend’s 1 yr old child 12 hrs a week. I also have a 2yr old at home. We live in Massachusetts. Do I need to be licensed?
I plan to pay taxes on the income and would like to be able to provide my friend with documentation to claim the expense on next years taxes. What paperwork would they need for the tax deduction? Any serious advice is welcomed.

Received divorce papers from Illinois, hired an attorney in S Jersery. Atty never gave me bill, I originally asked for pro bono as my ex took all I have. Atty wrote ex’s atty in Illinois stating he WAS representing me so I do have that much in writing. My atty was, however negligent in responding to ex’s atty, before you knew it, I was divorced and am being forced to pay for a car I don’t have — ex took it to Illinois with him! I understand the car was repossed. In addition the atty in Illinois said I would be liable for an IRS debt. I handled that one myself and filed for an Innocent spousal reflief. At this point, IRS sides with me unless ex appeals.

My 1st attorney basically just handed paperwork back to me (BIG, IMPRESSIVE FIRM?). Now, I have lawyer #2 helping to descrease amount of financal monies due my ex. He took everything from me, was the first to file and wins all.

How can I get atty #1 to realize his mistakes and reimburse me for what I have to pay out now?

Hi,
I’m looking for some in depth advice on my taxes. My husband and I did not file last year (2008) However we did file our 2009 taxes online, and then the day next sent in our 2008 taxes by mail. When we did do our 2008 taxes we calculated that we owed the IRS 1100 dollars, however our 2009 taxes we were expecting a return of roughly 6,000$ So we figured the IRS would take out what we owed them, plus all penalties and interest from our 2009 return.

However yesterday we received a statement from my Husband’s student loans saying they have garnished all of our 2009 return. (To be honest we were kinda expecting that, but we figured its not wasted if it’s paying off our debt) But what I’m really worried about is, what about our previous debt to the IRS? Are they now just going to send us a bill for 1100$ instead of garnishing it from our 2009 return?

And can anyone give me any advice on this so called "injured spouse" procedure I could do to try to gain my portion of the 2009 tax return. How long this might take before I actually receive it? and is the paperwork difficult.

Any sound advice would be greatly appreciated!

My husband got his wages garnished for a credit card that he owes from back in the day. We can not afford this at all, it’s 10 percent of his gross income. We are in the process of filing chapter 7 bankruptcy but I know that takes a little while for the paperwork to go through. Is there a way to stop it from happening again to his next check immediately? Or at least getting it decreased? We live in NJ by the way. All advice will be appreciated.

I am working on paperwork to filing bankruptcy. My attorney wants me to list all my creditors. Thing is, most of them were charged off three years ago and now belong to collection agencies. If I list my original creditors in the bankruptcy, will the collection agencies still have the debt, and will they be able to harass me? That is to say, will the debt really be gone?

I did free efile with tax software on IRS website and put that I didn’t get 0 so they gave me the deduction? I thought it was supposed to be as reduced withholding taxes for working people?
I guess it is totally confusing to me. I thought we only got the or so extra every week. It is good that the free efile has software to do all the paperwork for you to get all the deductions you are entitled to.

I just moved from Connecticut to Florida in June 2009. I want to file a pro-se chapter 7 bankruptcy. I contacted a company that said they can’t help me because I have not lived in Florida for the past 2 years. Does anyone know if this is true? And what does this mean to me when it comes to filling in paperwork? I would like to do this soon and I cannot afford to hire an attorney.
