I owe some back taxes to the IRS and am enrolled in a repayment plan. The stimulus check will be more than enough to settle this debt. I didn’t get direct deposit and my SSN ends in 90 so I’ll get my check in July sometime. My question is when will the stimulus check get applied to my bill?

I’m talking on a federal level. A tax of 15-20% would be roughly equal to what the IRS takes in in sales tax. This would be more fair to the people, because it taxes on how much they spend, not on what they do for a living (work). Also, you have some influence over how much you pay in taxes. Seems like a good idea to me, are there any drawbacks? Oh yeah it would also make taxes much simpler, cause tax code is about 10x longer than the Bible.

Just found out today that back in 2007 a company that my husband worked for intentionally sent his 1099 form to the wrong address. We didn’t think that he had worked at all for this company that year so when he didn’t receive one we were not worried (he was an independent contractor for apartments and all of our records were destroyed in an accident). Now the IRS says that he did almost ,000 worth of work. Turns out that the company sent the 1099 to his (former) work place and they did not forward it on to us (they claim that they did not have our home address but that is not true - we received mail from them at home) - they only gave it to the IRS. I also DID call the office he worked for and they claimed not to have a 1099 for him because he did so little work for them that year that one was not needed. Also his father worked there and had permission to bring us any information from the company - nothing was sent by him. The company is refusing to send us copies of the invoices that they claim to have from him from that year. They have already taken all of our refund this year and we still owe them several thousand dollars. Do we have ANY recourse against this company that would assist us with the IRS?
