My husband’s Dad recently came in large amount of money due to death of his uncle. He wants to pay off our home and hold the mortgage at 4% to help us out. This would save us lots of money. Basically we would be refinancing and paying off the exisitng mortgage company and pay his Dad for the 220,000 at 4% interest. WOuld the IRS consider this a gift and he be taxed in anyway?

Do you know anything about this company? My dad is using them & I fear it may be a scam. The name of the company is: Tax Relief 4 America. They are located in San Luis Obispo, CA. Any links, info. and/or reviews would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My uncle filed for bankruptcy Chapter 7 back in 2001. He and my dad were partners in a business wich they just sold last week. My dad just told me that about 20K will be offset because of my uncle’s previous bankruptcy filing. Now is this legal, or is this included in the new change of the bankruptcy law that came in effect in 2005? Any infor will be appreciated.

Okay, this may sound really really stupid, but I didn’t keep records of that. I was a renter but was still considered a dependent.
I don’t think I received anything, but my dad thinks I did. I’m not sure what to do about this years taxes.
So what do I do? How can I find out if I got any money, and how much?

My husband inherited money from his dad. It was in the form of a check. No property, or belongings were left in his name, just the money. We did not claim this on our taxes of 2008 as we thought money was not taxable. His brother filed a return for 2009, and the IRS sent him something basically saying, "No way, you owe us"! (He also received money). How do I find out if I owe the IRS or not? They have not billed us. But then again they have not billed his brother either.

I live in NJ and I am 20 years old, I have NJ Manufacturers insurance but the car was registered under my father’s name. I was in an accident 2 years ago where a car ran a red light and totalled my car. The car that hit me was a station wagon and didn’t have any significant damage. Due to no fault and no witnesses, we were left to pay for our own damage because the other driver claimed I ran the red light. He had 4 or 5 passengers but when I went to ask them if any injury had occurred, they said no and left after the police report was filed but BEFORE the ambulance came to check me out. I was uninjured but nervous but shaken up a bit cause this was my first accident. Two years later, the other driver has filed a civil suit against me claiming I injured him, and I have been told to contact his attorney. He waited until 3 days before the statute of limitations ran out to file, and I highly doubt he was injured in the accident, but I don’t know what to expect. Will I be paying for this?
A sheriff brought the summons to me at my home and my dad is freaking out because he is liable, we have yet to contact the insurance company and I know I should, but I am also nervous about this because I didn’t even do anything wrong and I already lost my car. My insurance company has asked me for a statement and I told the same story I told here, and I believe they have refused to negociate with the other driver and that is why he is filing this suit. My side of the story is 100% true, andI know he has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that I was responsible to claim anything. I was at the scene for 2 hours longer than he was (he drove away, my car was done) and I there were definently no witnesses. I don’t think there is any way he could win this, unless I’m missing something? Any responses are greatly appriciated, I’m just dying for some support over here…
It was in Newark, NJ. If you don’t know anything about Newark… when I made the 911 call about the accident the police hung up on me the first time, and I had to get reconnected. The 911 operator was in shock. It was no fault because we both said the same thing and noone stayed to be a witness, I do have pictures of my totalled car but his seriously wasn’t even scratched. I had a 97 Nissan Altima…

My dad worked for me on and off throughout the yr cleaning and doing maintenance. I will be giving him a 1099 statement for ,000. They also own their own home. How much taxes do you think he will have to pay?

My dad is 68 yrs old and disabled. He has recently moved in with me and given me power of attorney. The problem is he has four guns, 2 rifles and 2 handguns, back in his home in NJ. I can not find the permits, etc. One rifle was my grandfather’s and I believe one pistol was my dad’s service weapon from Dept. of Corrections. Can I transport them across state lines without paperwork?
