If you are already being sued you are screwed. Any collection agency that is dealing with the debt at this point is going to tack on a nice hefty fee. You might be able to contact the card company directly and pay off the amount. Before you contact them have cash in hand. I would use my refund to make sure no other debts go bad since this one is already. And try to work it out later with the credit card company. An attorney is not going to cut you any slack. Don’t fall behind in the rest of your debts because of this one. This one is already bad.
Talk to the collection agency that has your debt. Typically, they’ll let you settle for the lesser amount of what you actually owe, provided you pay in a lump sum. However, if they’ve already taken you to court, it may be too late for that. Call them and ask, and be sure to get all agreements in writing.

By "being sued by lawyers" I assume you’ve already been served court papers.
Assuming the debt is enforceable (within the statute of limitations), you might try reaching a settlement.
