More focus on the specific area (state) rather than the entire country. States could make decisions on their own

Simple, that's the way the Constitution started, states rights. Other than that free marker economics. If states were given the autonomy to collect and levy taxes, they would then ultimately decide what taxing platform is best to attract residents and businesses.

But you can't stop at taxes, you have to look at Energy, Education, OSHA, etc. Currently, living in Utah and we supply a large amount of energy to CA. We are then asked to ration our energy due in large part to the CA supply. Why? If each individual state is allowed to function as intended, in my opinion, you would see dramatic improvements across the board. Just look at unemployment numbers right now. States with high unemployment see people/families leaving by the droves. Look at MI and their history of corruption, unions, taxes, etc.

Maybe you're talking about the Medicare situation? If so, the answer is simple. The Fed needs the states to pay for a larger share of its' unfunded mandate (Medicare) so it can sink more of your dollars into a ponzi-scheme health care for the lazy plan which will ultimately be ruled unconstitutional anyway.

Americans are stupid and all those OH-BLAH-BLAH supporters will only see that their state taxes have gone up, while the federal taxes have not. They will be left with the impression that OH-BLAH-BLAH is the provider of healthcare and the creator of all things wonderful; puppies and rainbows, and welfare checks and free abortions and lolly-pops and ACORN will rejoice!
