How much does a lawyer typically charge for a person to file bankruptcy papers?

I have a friend who is in debt about 30,000, and is sinking fast. She wants to file for bankruptcy. How much should her lawyer be charging her to file?

The retainer fee basically depends on the attorney handling the case and what chapter your friend is filing. They can charge anywhere from 500.00 to 1500.00 or more for a chapter 7, and higher for a chapter 13, best advise is for your friend to contact a local bankruptcy attorney in their area and get in to see them on a free consultation. Once they review all the information needed, they will advise on how much it will cost to file. I filed chapter 7 and discharged in 02/08 and it cost me 1,200.00 Good Luck!
Depends on the case, but generally they charge between $500 - $1,500. Hope that helps.
I payed 2500 but i filied chapter 13 and they figured it in to my payments so no money out of pocket
