How long does the IRS take to cash my check?

I sent in my IRS check on 4/11/2010 and it still hasn’t been cashed. I’m concerned as I don’t want to pay any fees because the check is lost or from something else that stopped them from getting my money.
What should I do and who should I call to resolve this problem?

IRS cashes checks as soon as received, since the check has not cleared your account, it would be wise to call IRS at 1-800-829-0922 or 1-800-829-8374 to verify the check and your tax return was received. Hopefully you wrote your SSN and the year you were paying in the memo section.

Might wanna call em and see what’s up. Im suprised. Im in Canada where it takes longer for mail to get to the states and they cashed my check almost right away. For me, this was the first year I had to pay taxes, I usually get a refund. My refund usually takes a month or two to get back to me. Funny how when they owe me, it takes awhile, but when I owe them they get my money almost instantly.
Normally it would be cashed by now. They do get a lot of returns the last few days, but should at least have them opened by now. You could call the IRS and they might be able to tell you if they’re running that far behind.
